It is estimated that between 60 and 80 thousand people arrived in Spain during the Second World War, defying the high peaks, the adverse weather conditions and the surveillance on both sides of the border. The town of Sort and its prisons, for men and women, became the concentration place for refugees detained by the Civil Guard at the Pallars Sobirà and Val d’Aran border crossings. Currently, the museum space disseminates what were the escapes and pays tribute to all those who starred in them.
