The Palm Museum and Rural Development Centre in Mas de Barberans opened in May 2010 as a venue for initiatives fostering and diversifying local and territorial economic development, and for the recovery of palm craftsmanship which is part of the region’s ethnological heritage. The working artisans that have taken training courses at the centre have been included in the project to highlight its commitment to rural development. Workshops at the centre are organised by the artisans and demonstrations of the craft are always possible, as well as purchases and personalised orders of palm handicrafts in the museum shop. The museum is involved in activities including research, an educational programme to pass on knowledge of the craft, creating new products combining modernity and tradition, craft demonstrations, workshops using plant fibres for various ages and levels, and various services including consultancy and loans of pieces and exhibitions.
